We at the Community Crisis Center are celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2005. We have reached this point in large part because of the human, in-kind and financial support we have received from hundreds of individuals, groups, businesses and agencies over the years. Our organization began at the grass roots level, with volunteers who were teachers, nurses, housewives, social service providers and others. They had in common a desire to create a place that would be “always home” for women and children in crisis. Funds were raised to hire a staff member or two, and within a week of our shelter’s opening we had our first client, a woman fleeing a domestic violence situation. As our number of clients has increased and our services have evolved in response to the needs of the areas we serve, our professional staff has grown to approximately 70 people. Still, we remain true to our grass roots beginnings by recognizing the importance of “Community” in all that we do.
