Adult Programs & Services
The Batterer Intervention Program offers services to both voluntary and court mandated individuals who have acknowledged their abusive behavior and are open to addressing power and control issues in their lives.

  3. Limited the people your partner has contact with?
  4. Tried to control where your partner goes and what she/he does?
  5. Believed that your partner is your property?
  6. Called your partner names?
  7. Used foul language or put downs to hurt your partner’s feelings?

If so, you are in violation of the Illinois Domestic Violence Act of 1986, which defines the following acts as illegal:

  1. Physical abuse

  5. Develop an action plan to resolve conflict in a non-violent manner
  6. Learn and practice assertive communication skills
  7. Increase their knowledge of stress management
  8. Discover the attitudes and beliefs that support violent behavior

The Process

Assessment-
The program begins with an assessment interview to gather comprehensive background information. This session is held with an individual counselor and is used to make initial treatment recommendations.

Treatment-
The core treatment portion of the program consists of 26 sessions of group therapy. The groups are 2 hours in length and meet on a weekly basis. Each session is co-facilitated by a male and female counselor, and there are typically 7 to 10 members in attendance.

To enroll in the program or to get more information please contact the Community Crisis Center at (847) 697-2380.

Groups are available in Elgin, St. Charles, Carpentersville, Hoffman Estates, and Streamwood.
